Digital Government in Portugal: trends, challenges and solutions

In the current context of a post-pandemic scenario, the challenges of resilience and digital transformation of public services, as well as new forms of relationship with citizens, motivates and consequently accelerates the innovation of public services. Ensuring that public entities can continue with some of the solutions that have been proposed, as well as evolving prototypes that, due to the success achieved, should have to scale to robust, secure, reliable and sustainable solutions in the medium and long term, pose challenges to decision-makers. In this workshop we intend to discuss how the administration entities are framing these challenges, using, for example, emerging technologies, disruptive business models and/or network governance schemes.

Objectives for the participants

  • Describe digital services and solutions aligned with European guidelines and standards;
  • Report use cases employing emerging technologies (Biometrics, IoT, AI, Blockchain, Augmented Reality) to respond to societal or sustainability challenges;
  • Discuss major challenges around large scale adoption of innovation, namely communication and literacy issues;
  • Present new governance arrangements for digital-enabled administrative modernisation, including open, inclusive and collaborative administration;
  • Capacity building and organization redesign for digital transition.
