Tendani Mawela

Tendani Mawela is an Associate Professor and MIT ICT Management Programme Co-ordinator at the University of Pretoria in the Department of Informatics. Prior to joining academia, she worked as an IT and management consultant on projects across the private and public sectors. She holds an MBA from the Wits Business School and a PhD in Informatics from the University of Pretoria. She is a Y2 National Research Foundation (NRF) rated researcher.

Her primary research interests are in ICTs for sustainable development, digital government, digital skills, and inclusion. Her research also focuses on the public value of digital government systems and the use of technology to support government operations, service delivery, and citizen participation. Tendani currently serves as president of the council of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT). She is also a member of the International Development Informatics Association (IDIA) executive committee for 2022–2024.
