Onkokame Mothobi

Onkokame Mothobi holds a PhD in Economics obtained from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and an MA in Economics from the University of Botswana. He is competent in microeconomic and macroeconomic modeling, simulations based on input-output models and counterfactual scenarios, and economics of the public and private sectors. Mothobi research focuses on digital transformation and innovation. He has published several papers on digital finance, fintech, and financial inclusion.

Mothobi is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wits, School of Governance, Tayarisha Centre, and a Lecturer at the University of Botswana. He has worked as a Short-Term Consultant (STC) at IFC World Bank Group. Mothobi has consulted various international organisations, including SACU and UNDP. As a senior economist at Research ICT Africa, he was involved in the development of the strategies and assessment of South Africa’s Digital Futures and Readiness for the South African National Development Plan.
