Mzukisi is Head: Wits School of Governance, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He spearheaded the establishment of the Tayarisha Africa Centre of Excellence for Digital Governance at the same university. In 2019 Mzukisi was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to serve on the Presidential Economic Advisory Council.

Mzukisi co-founded the Center for the Study of Governance Innovation at the University of Pretoria, South Africa and became its deputy director between 2012 and 2014. In his leadership role as a public servant, Mzukisi developed South Africa’s trade policy at the Department of Trade and Industry where he was chief director.

Mzukisi obtained his PhD from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom; MA from the University of Stellenbosch; and BA from the University of Cape Town. His recent book, the Political Economy of China-US Relations: Digital Futures and African Agency is published by Springer Nature. He has also written extensively on geopolitics, global governance, and leadership.
