Luís Barreto Xavier is an Invited Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, School of Law (Lisbon), an Of Counsel at Abreu Advogados and the President of Instituto de Conhecimento (Knowledge Institute).

His teaching and research focus is on Private International Law and Digital Law. Since 2019, he teaches a course on the Law of Artificial Intelligence and he is a member of the Research Group on AI and Law at the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law.

Previously, Luís taught Private Law and Private International Law at the University of Lisbon, School of Law, served as a Senior Consultant at the Prime Minister Legal Office (CEJUR) and clerked for Constitutional Court Judge M. Prazeres Beleza.

At Católica, Luís was Director of the LL.M. in International Business Law, Director of Graduate Studies and the Founding Dean of Católica Global School of Law.
