UNU-EGOV Scholarships

▢ About

As part of its mission, the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) provides a number of Scholarships for attending ICEGOV. These scholarships are aimed mostly at students, especially those originating from low-, lower-middle-, and upper-middle-income economies (emerging countries). The goal is to facilitate their attendance at the conference, allow them to present their research work, and help grow their academic and professional networks. However, any author of an accepted paper can apply. Since 2014, a total of 233 Scholarships have been awarded to authors of accepted papers originating from 56 countries. Of all scholarships, 85% were awarded to authors from emerging countries.

The application period runs from 6 to 16 July 2023. The timezone in effect for the deadline is Anywhere on Earth (UTC-12); this means that the deadline has not passed if, anywhere on Earth, the deadline date has not yet passed. Any application submitted past the deadline will not be considered. The decision notification will be sent by email to all applicants on 18 July 2023.

To apply, you need to fill and submit the form available on this page (once the application period starts), ensuring that you correctly fill all the requested data. Please do not submit multiple forms; if you do, we will only consider the most recent. If your paper is co-authored, only one of the authors may apply for the scholarship. If two or more authors of the same paper apply, this may lead to all applications being nullified.

▢ Conditions

Since the number of scholarships is limited, the preference will be given to authors who fill both of the following criteria:

  • Are students during the academic year 2022/23;
  • Are from a low-, lower-middle-, or upper-middle-income economy (emerging country).

For selection purposes, a student is considered to be someone enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree for the academic year 2022/23 in a higher education institution. Post-doc applicants will not be considered students for the purpose of this scholarship. The categorisation of a given country is the one provided by The World Bank (most recent data available). The ICEGOV 2023 scholarship covers the following items:

  • Free conference registration;
  • Lump sum of $300.00 USD.

The free conference registration does not include the Conference Dinner; participants who wish to attend it still need to pay the respective fee during registration. Please note that accommodation and travel costs are not covered by the scholarship; the authors are expected to cover these costs themselves. As such, we advise that travel arrangements and visa application (if necessary) are completed as early as possible.

The lump sum of $300.00 USD will be transferred to the participant’s bank account after the conference on the condition that they physically attend ICEGOV in full: all fours days, plus the Doctoral Colloquium if one of their papers has been accepted for that session.
