Premjit Lal started as a technocrat in the telecom sector in the area of planning, designing and execution which leapfrogged India to second biggest telecom market. Subsequently, he switched to the public policy in the diverse fields of e-Governance, Information Technology, Housing and Urban Development during his total professional career of more than 25 years. He is presently associated with flagship programme of Indian Government - 'Digital India' which envisage creation of knowledge based economy. In recent past, he has been associated with policy formulation for ambitious target of providing "Housing for All" by 2022 in India. As part of telecom and IT revolution in India, he acquired hands on experience of installation, operation and maintence of telecom switches, Internet exchanges and various IT systems. He formulated specifications of future mobile technologies as part of study group of Geneva based UNO's International Telecom Union (ITU). He has headed secretriat of Asia Pacific Ministerial conference on Housing & Urban Development (APMCHUD) - part of UN-Habitat. He also devised Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of India and BRICS as a group. He represented India in Nairobi prepcom meetings for setting urban agenda for next decade for Habitat III (Quito 2016) of UN- Habitat. He also represented India in IBSA (India, Brazil, South-Africa) working group on Housing.

He holds the Masters in International Development Policy (MIDP) from Duke University, USA. He is a trained Electronics & Telecom engineer from NIT, Bhopal and MBA in Marketing from MDI, Gurgaon in India.
