Changes in ICEGOV 2026 Following Stakeholder Consultations

Following extensive consultations with key stakeholders and the international ICEGOV community, the organizers have decided not to proceed with ICEGOV 2026 on the planned dates of 28 September-1 October 2026.

This decision reflects the impact of the concerns on international participation and is intended to ensure that future editions of ICEGOV continue to deliver the global reach and impact for which the conference is known.

The UNU-EGOV would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Digital Government Authority (DGA) and the Prince Sultan University (PSU) for their outstanding partnership and collaboration. We also thank the members of the organizing committees, chairs, authors, speakers, reviewers, sponsors and participants for their commitment and support throughout the preparation process.

Further information regarding future arrangements will be communicated in due course.

Why was ICEGOV postponed?
Following extensive consultations, UNU-EGOV, DGA and PSU jointly concluded that continuous concerns on international participation could challenge our shared commitment to preserving the global reach, diversity and impact that characterize ICEGOV.
Is the decision related to security concerns in Riyadh?
No. Neither local organizers nor UNDSS raised concerns regarding Riyadh. The decision reflects participation considerations and differing perceptions among international participants.
Why was a hybrid conference not adopted?
Previous ICEGOV experience demonstrated challenges with engagement and participation in hybrid formats. The organizers concluded that a hybrid event would not adequately address concerns about participation
Were stakeholders consulted?
Yes. Consultations included the organizers’ leadership, the ICEGOV Steering Committee, the UNU-EGOV Advisory Board, UNDSS and the wider ICEGOV community through a dedicated survey.
Is Riyadh being considered for a future edition?
Yes. UNU-EGOV has expressed availability in exploring the possibility of hosting ICEGOV in Riyadh in 2027, subject to discussions and approvals.
Registration fees will be refunded?
All those who have already registered will receive a reimbursement of the registration fee through the same means we received it. Credit card payments will be credited to the card. Participants who made a bank transfer will be contacted to confirm the bank details for refund.
