Nadejda Komendantova


Nadejda Komendantova is the Research Group Leader of the Cooperation and Transformative Governance Group at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Professor of Digital Governance Policy at AMISTAD University in Botswana, and Senior Expert at the Innovating Governance Association. Her research focuses on participatory governance, risk communication, and decision-making in complex socio-technical systems, with particular emphasis on how digital transformation reshapes public trust, institutional resilience, and citizen engagement.
With expertise in systems analysis and political science, she has advised intergovernmental organizations, EU institutions, and national governments on strategies to counter disinformation, enhance transparency, and strengthen democratic resilience.
Komendantova has coordinated interdisciplinary projects on digital risks, from misinformation and cybersecurity to the governance of emerging technologies, promoting inclusive, multi-stakeholder approaches. Through her scholarship, publications, and policy dialogues, she advocates for transformative governance models that ensure digital innovation advances societal well-being, protects fundamental rights, and supports equitable participation in decision-making.
