How to get there and accommodation

For ICEGOV2019 participants arriving in Melbourne, the most practical means of transportation is to book a flight for Melbourne Airport (IATA Code: MEL), colloquially known as Tullamarine Airport. This is the primary airport serving the city of Melbourne and is located 23 kilometres (14 miles) from the city centre. Apart from its many connections within Australia and to Asia, the airport serves as well passengers travelling from North America and Europe.

The first can transition to Los Angeles for a direct flight to Melbourne or an alternate international hub such as Dallas Fort Worth with direct flights to Australia. For European passengers, the transition can be made through Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, or Bangkok. A direct connection to Canada (Vancouver) is also available. For passengers coming from South America, a direct connection to Santiago (Chile) is available, as well as connecting flights from Brazil and Argentina. Passengers from Africa can take flights from Johannesburg, Nairobi, or Cairo. Note that these are only suggestions – you may find alternative routes depending on your chosen airline and departure flight.

To get to from the airport to the city, there are taxis and buses available directly in front of the International arrival lounge. SkyBus is the main airport shuttle to and from Melbourne Airport and the city. It leaves from two locations directly outside the terminals and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. SkyBus travels directly to and from Southern Cross Station and leaves every ten minutes for most of the day. From Southern Cross Station you can catch the tram or train to hotels near the conference venue (RMIT University). Trams are free within the central business district.

Accommodation in Melbourne is at the discretion of each participant. The conference organizers do not provide accommodation or hotel reservations to any participant. Please check your own preferred online hotel reservation platform (e.g. Booking.com), to make your hotel reservations close to the conference venue (RMIT University).
